Single bearing alternator are a cost effective construction for standby power. but for continuous power production dual bearing alternator construction is the way to go.

To garantee good service of their CHP with dual bearing alternators, Gasmotor and Elektrohagl have an important stock of rubber couplings. ( engine/alternator couplings)
IN case of rupture of a rubber coupling, you know you have done the good choice for a dual bearing alternator. Rubber coupling worked as a fuse to protect engine and alternator from real damage.
Replacement of the rubber coupling is usually a simple service operation that can be done easily by operators.
